We are very fortunate to be able to provide experiences for children with diabetes and their families that they would not have otherwise.
Our camps include Camp TWIGS, a 3-day non-residential day camp for kiddos ages 6-8, Camp STIX, a week-long residential camp for youth ages 9-16, an excursion-based Adventure Camp for teens and young adults ages 16-20, and our newest Sports Camp for youth ages 8-18!
Camp STIX has as many volunteers as they do campers to make the awesome week possible! Approximately 75 MASH Team Members care for our campers diabetes management 24/7. This team includes physicians, physician assistants, nurses, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, and many professional students. We also have roughly 40 kitchen volunteers, fondly referred to as DISH staff, who make and serve 3 meals and 2 snacks every day. This group includes nutrition experts, dietitians, and cheerful kitchen helpers who plan menus, prepare the food, measure carbs and keep campers well fed. Over 100 volunteers make up our Program and Support staff which includes our Education, Arts and Crafts, Photography, and Creative/Media Teams.
STIX Diabetes Programs is comprised of only three staff members, and the rest of our team is 100% volunteer based. This includes several Board Members from our community, as well as camp staff consisting of camp, medical and program directors, team leads, and lots of amazing folks who meet monthly (at minimum) and work all year for camp. There are also numerous vendors that provide us with tens of thousands of dollars in glucose meters, test strips, insulin, medical supplies, backpacks, and fun take-home items for which we are profoundly thankful.
Yet many expenses remain.
Our volunteers make our camps possible. Whether you want to volunteer for a specific event, help with the auction, or serve as a camp counselor--we need you! Once you experience the STIX community you will be forever changed while making an impact on the lives of youth living with T1D. Your sponsorship will go toward making it possible for a child to attend one of our camps. Sponsors are highlighted throughout the year on social media and on our website. The diabetes community is a close knit one with frequent communication and support for one another, and those who support making a difference in the lives of those living with this chronic disease. You can make a difference in the life of a child living with diabetes in our community through sponsorship of our camps and community outreach. Please contact us at stix@stixdiabetes.org for more information on how to become a sponsor today.
