Adventure Camp

Summer

Adventure Camp 2020 will be held Thursday, August 6th through Sunday, August 9th

Adventure Camp is the latest addition to STIX Diabetes Programs, focusing on diabetic management and the unique challenges diabetics face during the transitional years from being a teenager to becoming an adult (ages 16-19).

Campers participate in and take responsibility for their diabetes care with the help of staff, consistent with the advanced maturity level we ask of an Adventure Camper. Campers will bring and manage their own diabetic equipment while at camp, and receive guidance for balancing their activity level with food and insulin intake.

Adventure Camp

Camp STIX and Beyond

Campers at STIX Adventure Camp will interact with other young diabetic adults and share tips & tricks for dealing with their diabetes. This camp is meant to be a retreat, providing the opportunity to reflect on diabetes and the way it impacts our lives, and providing information that may make managing the disease easier.

We look forward to creating new traditions at Adventure Camp! The activity options change each year based on our location but you're sure to enjoy some outdoor fun--always a new adventure to look forward to!

History of Adventure Camp

The story of how we came to be.

Adventure Camp has been a vision for STIX Diabetes Programs for many years. There has always been a need for a camp tailored to young diabetic adults transitioning into a more independent way of life. Growing up with diabetes with the support of your family and friends is very different than managing diabetes independently. The goal of Adventure Camp is to provide young diabetic adults a resource to gather tips, tricks, and tools to manage their diabetes and handle the unique challenges that arise during these transitional years.

2019 was the inaugural year for Adventure Camp. A team of 7 Medical/Program Staff guided a crew of 24 young diabetic men and women on an adventure in West Glacier, Montana and we had a blast. Looking forward to new adventures in 2020 on the Salmon River near Riggins, ID!

Games & Activities

We will enjoy a three-day, guided trip down the beautiful Salmon River. Pick your guide’s brain and test their knowledge of local geology, natural history and Native American history and folklore. Enjoy amazing scenery in the second deepest canyon in North America on the longest undammed river in the lower 48.

Let's get out of the boats and stretch our legs as we hike to amazing natural hot springs and explore local wildlife.

Connect with your fellow adventurers as you work together to run the rapids, set-up camp each evening and play games on the beach. You will have the chance to share your story and support those around you.

We will have many unique opportunities to enjoy the great outdoors while on our adventure. Here are just a few:

  • Camping on pristine, white sand beaches
  • Star gazing from the depths of the canyon
  • Viewing and identifying wildlife, unique to the area
  • Making many new friends!
